The Silky Crunch Trifecta 🔱
Cuter for your health, wallet, and our planet 💚 Plus, your 5 most shopped links from 2024
It’s December 31st! I’m waiting for my sheets to dry at the laundromat and decided on a whim to write a quick letter about your most-shopped links of 2024 and my Silky Crunch Trifecta hypothesis. You have places to be, so we’ll keep it short and sweet.
The 5 Most Popular Silky Crunch Links
Electric Toothbrush Heads from Mable ($20 for 4)
This was the #1 most clicked link, which was so unexpected! Originally I linked to Amazon, but Silky Crunch readers sold them out so they’re no longer available until January 30th.
Not to worry, you can buy directly from Mable. Use code SILKY15 for 15% off and free shipping. I got FOMO because so many of you ordered, so I ordered too… now I don’t want to go back to the plastic ones that I still have 😭
The in-mouth feeling is pleasant and the castor bean nylon bristles are softer in a way that I like! If you bought the bamboo toothbrush heads, what do you think?
I was wondering why so many readers wanted this, and came up with the Silky Crunch Trifecta hypothesis of three wins. More below!
Hurraw Lip Balm ($17 for 3)
The gluten-free, vegan Hurraw lip balm was a sleeper hit. One reader bought it for her teenage son and wrote in to say he approved, which makes me feel extremely cool.
If you want to buy one instead of a three-pack, Detox Market sells one-offs for $5 in flavors like hazelnut, chocolate, and chai spice.
Glass and Silicone Pyrex Food Storage
This food storage set is $50 at Costco or $80 at Crate & Barrel. If you bought it, please let me know if you recommend?
LifeStraw Filter Pitcher ($65)
Readers bought 86 water pitchers!
The LifeStraw Filter and Pitcher was popular for the glass exterior and microplastic-capable filter, but a friend told me it’s extremely slow.
The brand started off with the LifeStraw for serious filtering in contexts with unsafe drinking water. I have the original LifeStraw ($20) in my go-bag, but have never needed to use it. In my mind I’m clever and drinking from the river à la the Walking Dead, but it’s more likely I’ll hydrate from the toilet bowl before looters get me in my own home.
Intimissimi Tiziana Bra ($39)
The Intimissimi Tiziana bra was the padded pick in the bra post, with 82% cotton, including the inner lining that touches the nips. I hear January is when bras are on sale so I might buy one then.
Silky Crunch may earn some money if you make a purchase through one of the links above.
The Silky Crunch Trifecta Hypothesis 🔱
My hypothesis is that readers purchased Mable toothbrush heads because they’re better for the body, planet, and wallet.
Body: There are clinical studies concluding bamboo toothbrushes harbor four times less bacteria compared to plastic toothbrushes, which is statistically significant! I checked for a conflict of interest, but Big Bamboo is not behind the studies.
Planet: It also comes in much less plastic packaging. I used to buy the Sonicare heads from Costco and iykyk: they’re encased in hard plastic the size of an oven tray.
Wallet: Actually cheaper at $20 for 4, versus $56 for 4 plastic heads. That’s $5 per toothbrush head instead of $11!
Did you receive any gifts or buy anything this year that fits the Silky Crunch Trifecta win-win-win criteria?
I’ll go first. For me, it’s cloth napkins… dinner parties feel elevated and friends are impressed you made an effort, but really, they’re reusable so you save $$ and cut down less trees!
I like these Crate & Barrel linen napkins ($12 but they’re always on sale) which are sturdy and less likely to show stains from wine, turmeric, or red sauce. Red napkins feel seasonal on Christmas, Valentine’s day and Halloween lol. I have beige ones from my Beige Era, which I now reserve for white food like cream sauce pasta or mashed potatoes.
Anyway, beige is out for 2025, and color is in! This Etsy seller sells organic linen napkins ($4) in varying sizes and shades like Canary and Cacao. 12 non-beige napkins for $42 may last you a lifetime.
How about you? What’s your triple-win, Silky Crunch Trifecta item? Too often, we’re told that we have to spend more money for our health, the health of the workers who make the goods, for the planet… it’s such a headache trying to weigh all the costs and risks. I hope you’ll share your gems below and highlight the easy wins!
Thanks for reading. Excited for more conversations like this in 2025 💚
A health-conscious friend recently turned me on to Modibodi period underwear, which I had never considered before—especially given some of the recent issues with toxic chemicals in other brands of period underwear. But after reading about them and trying, and I'm a total convert. They're a bit of an up-front investment, but compared to a lifetime of period products I bet they save lots of money in the long run!
I converted to the Suri electric toothbrush. Recyclable plant based heads and non-plastic body.
