totally agree. i will say, though, i have found some spiritual yoga teachers at equinox in nyc :) their classes are a lot emptier than the yoga sculpts of the world though lol
I've lived in India for a few years and we all wear something like this for yoga. I'll have more stuff to say about cultural appropriation, decolonisation and yoga later. (It's early morning here). For now - this kind of outfit is traditional, comfortable, airy - and body-concealing. Because yoga is definitely not about *showing off*.
Responding to the item rec for high impact sports! I have the Essential Racerback Sports Bra from Branwyn. It is 76% wool, so not entirely composed of natural fibers. However, I do pilates and hiit AND run in this bra. Excellent for high impact. It is incredibly supportive without being too tight. 10/10 recommend
I worked in both Malaysia and Singapore. My yoga teachers were all Indian, from India. They wore cotton pajamas and tucked-in cotton shirts. This is what I wear to my practice. I never understood the skin-tight or super-short yoga outfits. One can’t go wrong with cotton, bamboo, hemp, etc…
Thank you for calling out Lululemon and Alo! My sister did yoga training in India, and she has said all of these "yoga" brands go against what traditional yoga teaches. At the end of the day, they are just trying to make as much money as they can.
This is why I intentionally film a lot of my yoga content wearing normal clothes. You don’t need yoga pants to practice “yoga.” Asana is only one aspect of a deeply spiritual practice and it doesn’t matter what you’re wearing when you’re lying down for yoga nidra!
I’m not sure on the naturalness and plastic-freeness but prana is another brand to look into. And my okoliving yoga rug is really pricey but nice 😊
Love it! My spouse (Casey) switched from a yoga mat to a yoga rug. I don't feel like I used my expensive Lulu Lemon one enough to replace it. At the time they had the only extra long one I could find for the size of my body. But the truth is I'm jealous of her yoga rug and I want one for myself.

I’d want to ditch plastic yoga mats, but i have latex/natural rubber allergy :(
I thought latex/rubber were the only options, but cotton yoga mats are the OG! https://okoliving.com/collections/mats
These look good! But i need to see if they are available where I am! But a good start for me. Thanks!

I've heard such good things! 76% is still so much better than 100% plastic

I needed to read this. Thank you. 💛
Oh yay! Namaste

it's a bummer! I would love to support an Asian yoga brand that makes comfy, natural fiber clothing and mats.
Kundalini yoga is my fave. I don't know if it's still open but Rama Yoga Institute in NYC is a great studio to check out.
I've only been once at my local studio but I'm curious to go again! Afraid to awaken my kundalini though lol
Wow what fun activities to do in the pants!!

Oooh please share your yoga content links if you’re comfortable 🙏

That is so pretty!! That's the brand making the yoga towels I want 🥲 maybe you should get a towel too and put it over your mat...
Love the energy of this piece! Should be noted that Los Angeles Apparel is helmed by known creep and sex pest Dov Charney
